Splitt Chartering APS- despite its use for more than 60 years in international conventions ratified by over 75 countries, there had been no authority from any jurisdiction on the meaning of “operator” until the Stema Barge II case.
The Admiralty Court at first instance which considered the meaning of ‘operator’ for the purposes of the Convention of Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims 1976.
